Chartered Institute of Management Accountants Event: 8th October 2009, Birmingham
Dont just present the numbers - use management information to drive corporate change
CIMA acknowledges that the finance function and its members need to evolve away from traditional back office processing and move into more front office business management. This is even more pertinent now that the credit crunch is making financial control and change management even more critical for ongoing success.
As custodians of most of the corporate management information, management accountants are in a very strong position, or are they? With the advances in technologies, such as data warehousing and business intelligence (BI), there is the threat that management information will be automatically produced and delivered to business users, empowering better decision making in the front office, without the intervention of finance.
In this presentation, Glen discusses how better management information, automatically delivered to end users, should be embraced and managed by finance to drive change within the organisation and how creating a BI culture is essential to create continual change and improvement underpinned by the intelligent use of data.
Glen proposes various organisational structures to enable a BI culture and discusses the role and position of finance in these scenarios. There are no definitive answers to many of these issues, such that these sessions are often followed by good debate and stimulate many good and practical ideas; something that CIMA members will thrive upon and hopefully be able to put into action.
Your speaker Glen Westlake is the CEO of IT Performs, a specialist business intelligence consultancy which provides real world advice on how companies can make better use of their data in order to influence behaviour and have a positive impact on the business.
